Of the estimated 1.1 million Americans with HIV, 1-in-5 is not diagnosed and just 62 percent receive some care, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Only 41 percent keep up their treatment over time, and just 28 percent — about a quarter of the infected population — is treated effectively enough to tamp down the presence of the virus in the blood.
